Mastering the Art of Folding Clothing: Tips for a Tidy Wardrobe

We’ve been on a bit of a deep cleaning checklist spree with our recent blog posts, so today we’re mixing it up and talking about the correct way to fold your clothing! If you didn’t know, True Glow offers a tidy and full service, so we can help you fold all of your clothing—often the most daunting task of housework. Speaking from personal experience, we know how those clean laundry baskets can pile up, and our entire mission is to be here to lighten your load and sometimes that means you need a bit of help to get that laundry put away!

Folding Tips for Your Wardrobe

1. Sweaters
Hanging sweaters on hangers, just like their shirts, can really stretch them out and create bumps on the tips of the shoulders. Instead, fold the sweater over the top of the hanger. First, fold the sweater in half, then fold the sleeves over one shoulder of the hanger and tuck the bottom over the other shoulder. This creates an upside-down triangle on the hanger, allowing the hanger to support your sweater without stretching it out. Make sure the hook of the hanger is nestled right in the armpit of the sweater!

2. Pants
Pants can be tricky! Folding them over the hanger can result in creases that are hard to remove, or they might slip off easily. A great method is to thread both legs through the hanger and then hook the hanger on the belt loop. This way, the pants stay neatly in place and avoid creasing.

3. T-Shirts
To fold your T-shirts perfectly, start by folding them in half. Next, bring one sleeve over a third of the way, and then fold the other sleeve over the top, making sure the shirt is still in half. Finally, fold the shirt in half again, and you’ll have a perfectly folded T-shirt ready to stack or hang!

4. Dress Shirts
For dress shirts, start by buttoning the top button and laying the shirt face down. Fold each side towards the center so the sleeves lay flat. Then fold the bottom up to the collar. This method keeps your dress shirts crisp and prevents wrinkles.

5. Jeans
For jeans, lay them flat and fold in half lengthwise. Then, fold them into thirds. This keeps them compact and reduces bulk in your drawers.
