Refreshing Your Dining Room: Cleaning Tips for Every Purpose

We've been on a deep cleaning kick with our blog posts lately, sharing our go-to tips for cleaning each room in your home. Today, we're diving into dining rooms.

Before we talk cleaning, an interesting note: we’ve recently read that dining rooms are becoming less frequently used for their traditional purpose. What are your thoughts on that? Here at True Glow Cleaning, we’re big fans of a dining room that’s used for family meals and gatherings. There’s something about a dining room filled with friends and loved ones, good food, and late-night conversations that just warms our hearts. Whether you have a traditional dining room or have repurposed it as a playroom or art studio, today we’re diving into some cleaning tips that will apply no matter how you use your space.

1. Dust Your China

If you have a china cabinet, it’s going to be a dust magnet. Make it a habit to dry dust it every couple of weeks to prevent dust buildup.

2. Polish Your Silver

If you have silver pieces, consider polishing them every few months. You never know when you’ll want to pull them out, and regular upkeep will keep them looking their best.

3. Dust and Polish Furniture

If you have wood furniture in your dining room, find a good nontoxic wood cleaner and give it a good clean. We love starting with a thorough dry dusting and vacuuming before moving on to wipe things down with microfiber cloths.

4. Wipe Down the Walls

Grab a damp microfiber cloth and your favorite vinegar and water mixture to wipe down the walls. Finish up with a dry microfiber cloth to keep things fresh.

5. Don’t Forget Baseboards and Light Fixtures

Be sure to dry dust your baseboards, light fixtures, and blinds, as these areas can gather dust quickly. Then go over them with that damp cloth as well. Follow it with a dry and polish for the perfect finish.

6. Clean Curtain Rods and Windowsills

Curtain rods and windowsills often get overlooked, so take a moment to dust or wipe them down. If you’re cleaning your windows, a squeegee comes in handy! You can use a nontoxic glass cleaner along with your microfiber cloth for sparkling results.

7. Freshen Up Your Curtains

For a deeper clean, consider removing your curtains and washing them. Let them air dry for the best results. If they just need a quick touch-up, vacuuming them can do the trick!

8. Mop the Floors

Don’t forget to give your floors some love! If you have a rug, take it outside for a good shake and fresh air. Then, mop the floors to finish off your deep clean.

A lot of people might opt to do this level of deep cleaning in the spring, and we don't disagree! But we also love doing a deep clean in the early fall. It’s a great way to prepare for spending more time indoors with family and friends during the holidays. With this checklist, you can freshen up that dining room and be ready for whatever gatherings come your way.

Happy cleaning!
